Abayudaya: The Jews of Uganda

This is a story of faith and religious devotion set against a backdrop of isolation and fear. I was the first photojournalist to live and photograph in the remote villages in northeastern Uganda that are home to five small synagogues and over 1000 devout followers of the Jewish faith. The extensive text and photographs follow everyday life as well the rituals and celebration of Jewish life deep in the African bush. The book includes a companion music CD produced by Jeffrey A. Summit. An additional music CD published by Smithsonian Folkways, was nominated for a Grammy Award.
